ISTQB® Testing Cup 2025. Event report

On October 20th, the final of the very first ISTQB® Testing Cup – an international software testing tournament reviving the idea of competitive testing after years of absence – kicked off in Copenhagen. As a long-term supporter of this initiative, testerzy.pl continues its collaboration with ISTQB® and we were on-site to bring you full coverage of the event.

Although the tournament is organized under the ISTQB® banner, it is hard not to miss the inspiration drawn from the Polish TestingCup format created by Radek Smilgin – a project which was proudly developed for many years.

A “reincarnation” of the TestingCup concept

For years, the Polish TestingCup set standards for engaging initiatives that blend education, competition, and hands-on testing in realistic scenarios. Now, this concept returns – refreshed and on a truly global scale.

The inaugural edition of ISTQB® Testing Cup was hosted by the Danish Software Testing Board (DTSB). Eight teams from around the world qualified through national eliminations or nominations by ISTQB® member boards.

Who were the finalists?

The teams represented diverse countries, industries, and experience levels – from young engineers juggling studies and full-time work, to experienced QA leads in banking, and even a former basketball referee from Israel.

A few of the competing duos included:

  • Team Sparkle (Sri Lanka)
  • Team Austria
  • The Regressionauts (Serbia)
  • Test XPress (Thailand)
  • KoMamanov (Israel)
  • Automation Aid (Bulgaria)

Every team consisted of two members, with pair collaboration being a key judging factor. The competition was open to all levels, from aspiring testers to veteran QA professionals.

Organization & testerzy.pl presence

The event took place alongside the annual ISTQB® General Assembly, giving it a highly distinguished character and bringing together global testing leaders.

And just like in the days of the original TestingCup — we were there, continuing our ongoing partnership with ISTQB®, providing real-time updates, commentary, and photos throughout the event on testerzy.pl and our social media channels. We wanted to show you this international QA competition from the inside – as it unfolds.

Even though this was just the first edition, one thing is already clear: the global testing community is eager for events that reconnect practical testing with collaboration and learning.

TestingCup is back – in a new, international form – and we are excited to continue supporting and strengthening this initiative together with ISTQB®.

The first part of the competition — test planning and implementation — lasted until 12:00, followed by execution and reporting. The battle continued until 16:00.

Two teams received awards in the final classification:

  • Team Automation Aid (Bulgaria) — Best Use of Innovative Tools
  • Team KoMamanov (Israel) — Best Testing Methods

Congratulations!

We look forward to what comes next – new editions, new teams, and new success stories forged in friendly rivalry. And we will be there to bring them to you. Stay with us for more updates, insights, and behind-the-scenes coverage from the world of software testing.

See you at the next Testing Cup!
